Description
Letter to the Editor dated 23 June 1932 from W. Pollock-Wylie, Eastwynch, Fairdene Road, Coulsdon, Surrey. States that his late father the Rev. William Howie Wylie discovered Crockett in the literary sense in January 1891, accepting and publishing his first efforts in the Christian Leader. Gives account of persuading T. Fisher Unwin in 1893 to publish The Stickit Minister. Notes the earlier Dulce Cor (1886, Kegan Paul, under the nom-de-plume Ford Bereton), with a heliograph etching by W. S. MacGeorge of Mrs Crockett as frontispiece. States that in 1894 Unwin and Pollock-Wylie published four works: The Lilac Sunbonnet, The Raiders, Mad Sir Uchtred of the Hills, and The Playactress (the latter two in the Autonym Library). Corrects the text of the dedication of The Stickit Minister to Stevenson; provides Stevenson's reaction as reported through Sidney Colvin. Thanks Sir Herbert Maxwell for the Laurieston oration.
