Description
Review of Mad Sir Uchtred of the Hills (T. Fisher Unwin, 1894). Notes the verdict will depend on how far a reader can forgive writing in Old Scots, phonetically spelt; credits Crockett's aim as attained, breathing the atmosphere of the time of shutting kirks and testing ministers. Praises the occasional revelation of character as among the cleverest things in the story. Judges the book as showing originality and imagination, though flawed in conception. Mixed-content page.
