Creator

Samuel Rutherford Crockett; Hodder & Stoughton

Description

Second, superseding contract between Crockett and Hodder & Stoughton for "Grey Galloway," replacing the agreement of 24 January 1901. Royalty terms on the six-shilling edition unchanged (15% / 20% / 25% as before; 10% on remainder copies). Pennell's fee for fifty drawings remains £300, payable on receipt of the drawings. Four terms changed from the January 1901 agreement: (1) the publication deadline is extended from 30 April 1902 to 30 October 1903; (2) Clause 5 is expanded so that, if Crockett fails to deliver the manuscript in time and Hodder & Stoughton have already paid Pennell's £300, Crockett must refund that sum in exchange for the rights to the fifty drawings; (3) accounting is changed from twice-yearly to once-yearly, made up to 1 February and settled by 1 April; (4) a provision for an "edition de luxe" is introduced, at Hodder & Stoughton's option and at a price of their own fixing, carrying a 15% royalty to Crockett on copies sold. American rights, translation rights, and Continental English-language rights remain reserved to Crockett. Copyright terms, presentation copies, and agency arrangements with A.P. Watt & Son as before.
