Description
Biographical and critical article on S.R. Crockett in the New Writers section of The Bookman, April 1894. Covers his Galloway origins, education at Edinburgh University, ministry at Penicuik, and literary career from Dulce Cor (1886) through The Stickit Minister and The Raiders. Notes that the sources for The Raiders lie in Galloway legend and tradition, including Nicholson's Traditionary Tales of Galloway, and that the incidents are substantially true. Attributed to W. Robertson Nicoll on the basis of Nicoll's own statement in his Academy letter of 24 November 1894 (MAG-198), where he confirms he wrote this article from information supplied by Crockett. Includes photograph of Crockett.
