Correspondence: Letters in Support of Crockett

Creator

Lang, Andrew; Nicoll, W. Robertson

Publisher

The Academy (London)

Description

Two letters in support of S.R. Crockett, published in the same issue as Crockett's second letter (MAG-011). First: Andrew Lang (St Andrews, 22 November 1894), offering to supply full references for Covenanting claims to miraculous powers and citing Blackadder, Blair, Walker, and Wodrow. Second: W. Robertson Nicoll (Hampstead, 20 November 1894), confirming that the April 1894 Bookman article on Crockett (based on information supplied by Crockett himself) had stated that Crockett's true sources were to be found in Nicholson's Traditionary and Historical Traditions of Galloway, and that The Raiders was based on Galloway legends — testimony directly relevant to the plagiarism dispute.
