Description

Two letters published together. First: S.R. Crockett (Penicuik, 5 November 1894) responds to William Wallace's plagiarism charge, reprinting the relevant passage from Wallace's review. Crockett denies ever having seen or heard of Dugald Graham's chapbook, and states his source was an anonymous chapbook among many he studied, combined with a common ingle-nook tale familiar in every Galloway farm-kitchen. Draws a parallel with a plagiarism charge made against Thomas Hardy and announces he will follow Hardy's example in making no further reply. Second: Andrew Lang (London, 5 November 1894) disputes Wallace's claim that the Covenanters did not include miracle-working among their claims, citing Covenanting hagiology as evidence.
