Description

Been from home; heard sad unexpected news tonight of death of one who has been thirty years one of best and truest friends; would have come through and been with those who laid dear honoured head in dust had received letter in time; hearts heart with her in great trial God sent; has known John since knew anything; always considered him truly great by reason of noble uprightness, scorn of anything wrong or mean, constant desire for good of others; may God help of widow be with her; good Lord has loved one in keeping; has done day's work well, gone to Master to get wages; necessities of world taken them far asunder but if read his books will know never ceased thinking lovingly warmly of John and her and first dearest friend Robert Crocket the brother John has gone to rejoin; if can do anything to lighten path, help, advise will go infinitely far to do it
