<text>Letter to the Editor dated 7 July 1932 from David A. M'Donald, Missionary of the Church of Scotland in South Africa 1892–1932, now retired, written from Germany. Provides personal reminiscences of Crockett during his Edinburgh student years. Identifies Rev. W. Howie Wylie as the editor of the Christian Leader who opened the way to Crockett. Corrects an imprecision in an earlier letter: in 1886 Crockett was not at Penicuik Free Church but was attached to the Martyrs Reformed Presbyterian Church, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, ministered to by the Rev. William Henry Goold, D.D. Gives detailed account of the union of the R.P. congregation with the Free Church of Scotland (1876). Describes Crockett as a hefty, fresh-looking lad, somewhat shy and aloof; recalls the annual soiree and Crockett's habit of sketching those taking part during prayers. Notes his Cameronian connection was maintained in his South Africa mission station (Gooldville, Vendaland, Northern Transvaal). States that what is most special in Crockett's books is 'manliness — pure, downright manliness.'</text>
