On referring to agreement between themselves and McClure's firm covering serial publication in America of Mr S.R. Crockett's news story Lochinvar finds clause 7 reads: shall take all steps necessary to properly secure Crockett's copyright in United States, further provided shall be most careful to register American copyright of each part or instalment on particular day advised by them such part will be published in this country in Christian World; as said when had pleasure of seeing him recently has some idea Clarkes going to extend serial publication of story in Christian World for rather longer time than originally contemplated; if so will probably fall behind Australian publication; understands McClure to ascertain from Messrs James Clarke & Co exactly what intend to do; of course understands various instalments should be registered in America on day first published outside America whether here or Australia; Australian serial rights in Lochinvar sold to Mr Townsend who writes today re publication of story in Melbourne: shall commence Lochinvar in Australasian on January 2nd and conclude on last Saturday in June or first Saturday in July, cannot tell precise dates on which each particular chapter will appear but will be about two per week or 5000 to 6000 words; this taken in conjunction with information understands already got or will get from Messrs James Clarke & Co will enable McClure to decide what to do re securing copyright of book in United States; should think can give any further information likely to be useful only to let know
