The S.R. Crockett Online Museum represents a new digital reality for cultural heritage. Where museums were once exclusively physical buildings, ours exists in digital space—accessible anywhere, yet deeply rooted in the Galloway landscapes that shaped Crockett's imagination.

 

The  goal is to make Crockett's work more discoverable and accessible to readers, researchers, and anyone with an interest in Scotland's literary and cultural history.

 

The research base

The museum's research base comes from three leading Crockett researchers, jointly spanning close to a century of work.  Find out more about

How the research is conducted

The majority of this research has been carried out independently, outside university departments and funding structures. As an author marginalised by such institutions sometimes working outside them is the only way the record can be corrected.  It allows sustained, decades long work on a single author which academic career structures  rarely permit. 

 

Cutting edge research which challenges the established tradition is a double edged sword. Such independent scholarship comes without built-in peer review. The responsibility for rigorous standards remains with the independent researcher and the museum upholds the highest standards. Factual claims on this site are sourced or marked as inference. Dates and quotations are not used unless verified. 21st century research methods, including use of AI enable multiple perspectives and a clearer path to making primary source materials freely accessible.
